Suriname

The name "Suriname" always makes me think of Africa, but it isn't in Africa at all. It's in South America. It used to be Dutch Guiana, but it's been independent of the Netherlands since 1975.
The population is small, at least people-wise, but it is a lush landscape, teeming with life.

Who's up for a boat ride?

  1. Now this is the kind of place I like to look at pictures of - but wouldn't love to visit. "Teeming with life..." without a big population means - bugs, spiders, animals, weird flying jumping creepy things. Thanks for making this trip "virtual". I think I could still handle - I don't know - say Cancun - with a can of raid and a 5 star hotel. What do you say?

  2. This is one of those "vacations" I'd love to take so long as I could spend it in a bathysphere or something so I could see all the creepy-flying-jumping things but couldn't be touched by them. I'm glad for rainforests, but I don't want to deal with rainforest sized insects in my life.

  3. Indeed. A boat ride would be nice, but how nice would falling off that boat be? That water looks like it hosts more than one thing I could die happy without encountering.

  4. Yep. It's the only Dutch-speaking country in this hemisphere that is independent of the Netherlands.

And yes indeed, there are all kinds of beasties inhabiting that water Michael. That's why I was thinking bathysphere. :)
